Learning Through Service, Growing Through Experience  

Volunteering at Connecticut Children’s has shown me that patient care extends beyond medical treatment to the many interactions that help children and families feel supported. During my first summer as a patient transport volunteer, I helped patients move between different areas of the hospital and saw firsthand how communication, timing, and teamwork across departments contribute to the overall care experience.

Returning for a second summer, I volunteered in the Family Resource Room, where patients and families can stop by, interact with volunteers, and take part in activities during their time at the hospital. I designed and facilitated hands-on games, puzzles, riddles, and other activities to engage young patients and create moments of fun and normalcy within the hospital environment. These two roles have allowed me to experience healthcare from different perspectives and taught me that thoughtful communication, creativity, and small human connections can be meaningful parts of caring for patients and families.
